I have no idea but.. chocolate!

Hello!

No school today so, after I finished one artwork commission, I decided to try on my tattsuke hakama before it got too dark.
I'm not too sure how and with what you are supposed to wear these hakama really they are cotton by the way. I can't find anything on the internet either so I just paired it up with my only brown kimono I have, which is silk, because I thought said hakama would look good with a dark brown kimono. *shrugs* Speaking of brown.. while I was dressing I couldn't help but think of chocolate because, well, yeah, that's a mystery for you to solve or not. ;) Oh, and I used my white kaku obi again tied in a katabasami musubi.

Now for some photos, excuse me but it's mirror photos as usual. Also some photos have a blur going on.
I colored my hair yesterday so for now I'm going to say it actually looks fine instead of a mess, haha..

Obligatory weird ninja-feet-pose.

Tattsuke hakama in outdoor light. Pretty color accurate (it's not white, it's cream)

That's it for today, I'm off!

Friday kitsuke

Two posts in one day? Yup, because I can!

Yup, after I got home I decided to do some kitsuke practice this time with my only hakama because I've been having some brain bugs and forgot how one part of the hakama tying exactly went; managed to figure it out though!
I also tried out ichimonji musubi for the first time for hakama wearing, although I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the, err, "samurai badonkadonk”, so to speak. LOL

Also, the kimono is not actually mine, I bought it for my bro (who has a slight kimono interest) but when I took it out of the package to take off the basting threads I couldn't resist trying it on because it's PURPLE. And it doesn't seem too short for me length-wise at all, which I had thought it would. It's almost like I want to keep it.
Please excuse the peeking juban sleeves (my own juban + bro's shorter kimono = derp), I'm fighting the eternal fight against peeking juban sleeves. xD
The hakama are my only current hakama by the way, aka my dark brown silk andon hakama... needs moar hakama ~

Again sorry for terrible lighting on the photos it gets dark here so fast now and pretty much all lights in our house is yellowish and just tends to make photos taken inside after the sun has set or is setting bad.
Again mirror photos. Home alone.
Oh, and don't ask what's up with my hair when I woke up it flipped like that and it has been doing that the whole day, even though I tried to comb it down several times!

I had to sit down because my feet started to hurt out of nowhere; felt like
I would fall if I wouldn't sit down 3-2-1-NOW. Weird.
Well, I did almost faint this past Wednesday morning and stayed home from school so.. *shrugs*

 BONUS PICS!
I dunno what's with that face but star-shaped Christmas pastries are awesome. <3
"forgot-to-turn-off-flash photo" which turned out surprisingly cool...
This purple kimono was listed as silk (woven) but the more I feel it the more I start to wonder if it's really silk. It feels different from my silk hakama and pretty much all my other silk kimono items; it doesn't have that smooth touch to it and it's totally matte doesn't shine at all. But then again, I'm not good at telling fabrics apart. Oh well, whatever it is it's awesome anyway.

I hope I can wear this coordination again in better light, because this time the lighting was a total poop. I would also like to use a haori but I have no silk haori, except for a montsuki... yet.

Bye bye!

Customs and kimono

 Hi there!

Went today after school to the custom's office to pick up a kimono package from Shinei.
I've never before had any Shinei package getting stuck in customs, oh well. When I got there there was a slight line so I sat down and waited. After maybe 5 minutes or something this middle-aged custom worker guy came and asked me what my business here was, I just said I had a package to pick up and he told me we could fix it. Everything went as usual until he asked me what's in the package exactly and I just said "kimonos" his weirded out look that followed was golden. xD
He asked for me to show some kind of "purchase paper"; I had been prepared for this so I just took out the "thank you for your order"-email with the purchase info and prices. When the custom guy saw that the prices were 7$ per kimono (there were two, or well, one was a juban) I swear it felt like he did this expression:

He probably thought he had me cornered now..
And then it went something like this:

Custom guy: "A kimono can't be that cheap, the real price must be part of the more expensive shipping cost..."
Me: "This seller do sell some stuff very cheap vintage stuff and he tends to overcharge shipping costs."
Custom guy: "Vintage you say? Let's check if there's any wrinkles or spots or..."
Me: "It is vintage but..."
*he opens package*
Custom guy: "Sure doesn't look vintage..." *takes the plastic bag with kimono inside and stares at it scrutinously without opening it*
Me: "That's because the Japanese take great care of storing their traditional clothing; it can look pretty much new but there is often some slight damage. (I mentioned about a repaired small hole on one of the kimonos but forgot to mention the "vintage kimono smell")

After that and some other questions it felt like his mind went "fuck this shit" I don't think he believed everything I said (well, can't blame them for not knowing about kimono prices/stores, it's not a common thing to be knowledgeable about) but he didn't demand any custom taxes or whatnot those extra charges are that you get to pay, more often than not, if your stuff gets stuck in there.
He just gave me the package, after I signed under it (and my hand was shaking while I did so; it was so awkward!). Not because I lied or anything which I didn't but my hands honestly very often start shaking in public places when I have to sign stuff or pay with cash or something. I can't control it, I'm so awkward in social situations and sometimes this kind of shit happens. I guess it added to his suspicion lol.
After that I took the package and silently left. The whole thing was awkward, oh so very awkward; I did tell the truth but he sure didn't believe me it was like he wanted to prove me wrong all the time so I would have to cough up some extra cash I pretty much don't have lol. It sucks to be a student with no income, except study grant... which isn't much to cheer over either.
Oh, and yes. This was the same package I mentioned earlier that originally was stuck in Vantaa...

Nothing else to say! See ya!

Rare hakama saves the day + wool haori

Hello!

My day today I will sum up with a rage comic I just made and yes, it's kimono related! Let's go!

Basically, my day today had a shit-level of over nine thousand and well, I decided to browse Shinei just to get myself thinking about something else and I found these totally awesome rare hakama I hadn't seen when browsing Shinei on the morning earlier!
It was super cheap and in excellent condition too! How could I resist? I've never seen anything like it for sale before!

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's tattsuke hakama.
I've been wanting some rather bold kitsuke items lately, especially with ichimatsu (checked pattern) because there's just something I like about it. I want to experiment with some styles I've felt inspired by the last weeks me being an artistic person I sometimes get these urges to try out new styles, to find what fits me.
You'll see what I have in mind one day ~

I also decided to add a midnight blue wool haori (again, very cheap) to the same package because I would save a bit on shipping. Wool is awesome, especially when you live in an over-cold place like Finland; I hope we don't get a whole week of -30 °C this winter too...

(photos by seller)
Can't wait to get these!

Now back to the rage subject once more. One of the things that crapped up my day was that my latest kimono package not this one I just ordered from Shinei got stuck in the customs... in Vantaa.
Fucking 720 km away from me! FFFFFFUUUUUU!
I've never had Shinei stuff getting stuck in customs before – the heck do my imported stuff always end up there and not in the custom's office 10 km away from me? Makes no sense.
It sucks to have to call/email them in Vantaa to send it up to where I live. OTL
Urghhhh... not cool bro.

Bye for now!

Dark copper stripe kimono kitsuke!

 Oh hello!

Since last weekend I've been having an urge to dress in kimono. Luckily on Tuesdays I don't need to go to school, because the only class I have is an independent course for me at least it is. So when I woke up (which was slightly late) I noticed I was home alone and well, the rest you can guess ~

I decided to wear my striped dark blueish-something-I-dunno silk kimono because I haven't really done proper kitsuke with it, even though it's one of my very first kimonos.
I wanted to try it with my new white juban because I've noticed my only other juban has a too dark collar for the striped kimono the colors are too close to each other so it just, you know, blends in. Meh, needs a more contrasting color I think, hence white juban.
When I got to the obi choosing phase it hit me that I really need some more colors! I only have a white one, a fully black one, a darker green one and a wine red one and the rest is some funky odori kaku obi like stuff like with crashing waves and sayagata patterns. I don't really know if combining odori items with non-odori items is a no-no anyway I have a feeling that it is? If someone knows for sure inform me!
I do find it quite weird though how I don't have a single hakata (kenjo-gara) kaku obi... yet. *shrugs* Oh well, I decided to go with my white obi... I think it's turning into my default choice.

While dressing I ran into the rather common "peeking juban sleeves" problem and went and grabbed two of mom's larger snap-on hair clips, folded the juban sleeve slightly on top of itself and just temporarily fastened them like that with the clip. Worked like a charm and left no marks! :'D

Enough talk time for some photos!
Sorry, it's mirror-photos again, except for the two last ones... and my hair is a mess.

When you get tired of taking photos the normal way...
(aka I look like a monkey)
Geta close-up.
How the heck do you sit in kimono without flashing your juban
and still being comfortable? LOL

I still have more photos! Hang on!
Yep, this is a photo-filled post for a change! Enjoy it while it lasts ~ x)

I look so concentrated, wut.

It still remains a challenge to get a decent photo of your ass.. lol.
This obi is a bit too soft to do a proper kai no kuchi musubi with, kinda.
It likes to do weird things.. like tilting upwards and that smaller end likes to shift if I tie it even the slightest bit tight..

Flash photo to show off the fabric's structure. It's no mirrored!
It has this dark blue-purple-blackish body with copper stripes and
those... wispy things.. all over it.
Outside photo. Shows colors more accurately.
As you might notice the sun was already starting to set, hence the harsher lighting. The sun is set now at this writing moment and the clock is 16:30, getting dark. In northern Finland when we go towards winter the sun sets earlier and rises later, aka winter months are at the worst, with only a few hours of sunlight each day.

The wing span is a bit short but nothing ridiculous I think; it's pretty decent.
I like this kimono, I want to wear it more with different coordinations in the future but first, I need more obi. xD At least a blue and gray one.. and a slightly lighter brown would be nice too!

I think that's it for today. Goodbye!

// BONUS EDIT //

Here's a photo on which I'm smiling.. at least slightly. Say poo!
Because I have "neutral face" on all other published photos lol.

Bye, for realz!

White men's juban

 Hello peeps!

I went to the post office and picked up my white juban today. I'm very happy to have a white juban because besides using it for kitsuke it will also be usable for a whole bunch of anime, manga, and video game character cosplays because pretty much all characters who wear a kimono have a white juban or at least a white collar showing. AWWWWW YEEEEEAAAAHH! Multi-use wafuku!

(seller's photo)
In the coming days I should be receiving some more kitsuke stuff, stay tuned!
